Facts and Figures
In case you're wondering what we Richmond parrot heads do to keep busy, here are just some of the ways in which we gave back to our community and the world in 2007:
- 16 club members and a flock of flamingoes cheered on the participants in the Monument Avenue 10K, and won an honorable mention award for our spirit booth.
- 10 club members poured beer at the 69th Annual National Folk Festival held in downtown Richmond.
- We presented toys and clothing worth $800.00 to our three adopted Salvation Army Angel Tree kids.
- We adopted "Crazy Nick" through Save the Manatee Club.
- 31 club members volunteered their time and skills to making our 13th annual Stars on the Water party/fundraiser a success, and we contributed $5,050 to the Alzheimer's Association and $1,000 to St. Joseph's Villa from Stars' proceeds.
- We shipped 332 gently-used books to troops in the Middle East as part of Operation Paperback.
- We gave 347 pounds of canned food items to the Central VA Food Bank.
- We donated 48 pet items to the Richmond SPCA.
We also made financial contributions to the following charitable organizations:
- Ovarian Cancer Alliance
- Families of the Wounded Fund
- Tropics Exotic Bird Refuge
- Whale Center of New England
- Noah's Wish
- Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund
- American Cancer Society
- National Multiple Sclerosis Society
- Central VA Food Bank
And, last but not least, 15 PHC of Richmond members sacrificed their vacation time, hard-earned cash, and, in a few cases, their healthy livers to attend the 16th annual Meeting of the Minds convention in Key West, Florida, November 1-4, 2007. It was a grueling experience, but somebody had to do it!
